Cliburn Confidential: Evgeni Bozhanov
A series of conversations with the Cliburn competitors.
Evgeni Bozhanov
(pronounced Yev-GUE-nee BO-jah-nov)
Nationality: Bulgarian
Born: Rousse, Bulgaria
Lives: Dortmund, Germany
Age: 25
When he’s not practicing piano: "When I’m not playing, I really then like to enjoy some delicious food. And, sometimes when it comes to practice, it can almost be better to practice without the piano."
Favorite movie, book or musician: "I don’t really have any favorite musicians, books or movies. But if I had to pick, I would definitely lean towards the old masters when it comes to painting and literature. Frankly, I actually think it’s somewhat restricting to have to name a 'favorite’ something. That 'favorite’ can change with a new day."
Earliest piano experiences: Bozhanov recalls that he was 6 years old when he had his first piano lesson.
What he loves about living in Germany: "Believe it or not, but I really enjoy the gray weather here. I find it’s the perfect weather for working."
Favorite food: Bozhanov seems to go from one culinary extreme to another when picking his two favorite foods, which are "Japanese and steaks."
First authentic Texan thing he wants to do in Fort Worth: Bozhanov wants to head for any restaurant that can serve him some "nice American food."
Pre-concert ritual to bring good luck: "If I were to tell you what it is, it probably would no longer work."
He would most like to hang with which famous composer: "Honestly, I am only interested in what is written on the paper by the composer. I’m actually not all that interested in having a face-to-face discussion with him about the music."
