Euless Trinity muscles past Coppell for 7-6A victory

On a night when lightning stole must of the headlines, Ja’Ron Wilson put on a show in Euless Trinity’s 49-14 victory over Coppell on Friday at Buddy Echols Field as the Trojans maintained the driver’s seat in District 7-6A.

The senior running back scored five times and racked up 350 yards rushing, with an average of more than 15 yards per carry.

Wilson’s first TD came midway through the first quarter from 11 yards out, when he started left, then reversed field all the way around to near the right sideline.

Later in the first quarter he broke free from 69 yards to give Trinity (9-0, 5-0) a 14-0 lead before lightning delayed the game.

However, the delay didn’t slow Wilson, who went 59 yards for another score midway through the second quarter to make it 21-0. Wilson had 259 yards on 15 carries in the first half.

He added touchdown runs of 12 and 19 yards in the third quarter before taking the rest of the night off.

Coppell (4-4, 2-2) still had no answer for the Trojans’ bruising offense.

Javontay Powe took over for Wilson and added a touchdown and 114 yards as the Trinity offense bulled its way to 547 yards rushing in the game.

Coppell sophomore quarterback Brady McBride was 14-of-30 passing for 188 yards and two touchdowns on a night in which conditions were tough throwing the ball. Josh Fink caught 10 passes for 128 yards and a score.
