Another high-profile departure at KTVT/Channel 11 comes a week after the station dropped morning anchor Brendan Higgins: Tracy Kornet, who has been with the station for eight years, is leaving on her own terms, local-media blogger Ed Bark reports on his Uncle Barky’s Bytes site.
Kornet’s last day is Friday, Sept. 5, Bark reports, adding that station spokeswoman Lori Conrad said that Kornet is heading to Nashville to be closer to her family.
Kornet, a former Phoenix morning-show host who had appeared on The View and Good Morning America, came to DFW in 2006 to co-anchor the two-hour, prime-time newscast First in Prime on KTVT’s sister station, KTXA/Channel 21. She was joined by Keith Garvin in 2009, and that duo went on to anchor CBS 11’s 4 p.m. newscast at the beginning of January 2010.
Kornet was part of DFW.com’s The secret lives of anchors story in 2011, when she talked about her not-so-secret secret life as a singer (she has performed at House of Blues Dallas and Sambuca). She performed with Original Cast, a Broadway revue group, when she was at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She did a stint in Japan backing up Anri, a Japanese pop star.
And she even flirted with a professional singing career in Los Angeles, recording demos and coming close to signing with Epic Records. But the music-industry lifestyle conflicted with her moral values, and she took the broadcasting route.
