Mike Garber has been named vice president and news director for KTVT/Channel 11 and KTXA/Channel 21, DFW’s CBS-owned and -operated TV stations, the stations announced Monday morning.
Garber, who comes to the stations from WPTV/WFLX in West Palm Beach, Fla., fills a vacancy that’s been open since Adrienne Roark left in May to become president and general manager of KOIN in Portland, Ore. Roark, who had been with CBS 11/TXA 21 since March 2010, had also come from a Florida station -- in her case, CBS4 in Miami.
In West Palm Beach, Garber had served as news director at WPTV/WFLX in since 2012. During his tenure, WPTV won a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence and a regional Emmy Award for News Excellence.
Garber had also worked as news director at WTLV/WJXX in Jacksonville, Fla. from 2008 to 2012, leading WTLV to a 2011 regional Emmy for News Excellence. He has also wroked at stations in Columbia, S.C., and Tucson, Ariz. A graduate of the University of South Florida, he began his career as a sports producer at WTVT in Tampa, Fla., and held the same position at WFTS in Tampa and CBS-owned KPIX in San Francisco.
