Eats Beat: Mixing it up for a free Father’s Day burger

Mixed-Up Burgers is all about the in-between.

Between Fort Worth and Dallas, and on Texas 360 between Arlington and Euless, Mixed-Up’s burgers come in four sizes with a choice of 25 ingredients mixed into the beef.

In spirit, Mixed-Up is between Rodeo Goat’s creativity and Fred’s comfort.

And if you’re beside yourself for a Father’s Day idea, Mixed-Up is feeding dads free.

Mixed-Up will grill every dad a free one-third-pound burger with a choice of three “mix-ins” with the purchase of fries and a drink, dine-in only.

Or let Dad venture onto the new “up-and-comers” side of the menu ($9), featuring recent creations such as the Ring of Fire (bacon, jalapeños, queso and pepper Jack) or the Irish (bacon and cheese, topped with potato wedges, sour cream, chives, more bacon and more cheese).

The Frito Pie Burger may be the ultimate of the genre, mixing chili, crushed Fritos, onion, cheddar and Jack cheese into the beef, then covering it with more of everything.

June’s burger of the month is a “spaghetti burger” with mozzarella and pasta on garlic toast.

You get the idea: This is the place for that ham-pineapple burger of your dreams, or bacon-Muenster, or you-name-it.

Mixed-Up also has chicken and turkey burgers, salads and sides. On Sundays, a church bulletin gets 20 percent off.

The new Villa Grande Mexican Restaurant location, 4120 Texas 360 in Centreport Station, has settled in after a few months and is doing busy business at lunches and happy hours.

Villa Grande already was popular at locations in Denton and Cross Roads. The Fort Worth location has bargain $7-$8 lunches, including first-rate chalupa-sized puffed tacos daily and $3.50 margaritas Wednesdays.
