“Parables. New Work,” by J.T. Grant, will open at William Campbell Contemporary Art on Saturday, with a reception for the artist 6-8 p.m. Those who admire Grant’s exquisite paintings should steal themselves for changes; he has added an edgy dimension to his beautifully wrought canvases. The beauty of his technique is still there, as is the invitation for reflection, but now there is a disturbing twist. A heart-shaped wasp’s nest dangles from the most tenuous thread in Absence and seems to thrum with a buzzing life force. Both the force and the thread seem quite vulnerable. In another instance, one of his beautiful skyscapes, Untitled, is dotted with a tiny helicopter, a punctuation mark of something not quite right in an otherwise bucolic field of blue. 4935 Byers Ave., Fort Worth. 817-737-9566; www.williamcampbellcontemporaryart.com.
