Meteorologist Krista Villarreal leaves CW33

Posted 4:17pm on Monday, Apr. 07, 2014

A week after our story on DFW TV meteorolgists ran, one of them has left the TV station she worked for.

Krista Villarreal, who most recently was doing weather for KDAF/Channel 33 but is probably best-known for her 1998-2004 gig at KXAS/Channel 5, is leaving CW33 to take a position as communications and PR manager for the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas.

“This made 100 percent for me,” Villarreal said in an email. “Not sure where else I'd have the chance to use my MBA (marketing), media and science backgrounds in a whole new way. Should be fun!”

Villarreal has also done fill-in weather on KDFW/Channel 4 and KTVT/Channel 11, as well as being lead weather anchor for CBS Radio Dallas, where she was heard on KRLD/1080 AM. She worked for the National Weather Service before her stint at NBC 5.

She says she left CW33 voluntarily. “The Perot's marketing director and I have actually been discussing this possibility for months and months, but it finally all came together in the last week or so,” she says.
