Gloria Campos profiled on ‘ABC World News With Diane Sawyer’

Posted 8:50am on Friday, Mar. 07, 2014

Gloria Campos’ last day at WFAA/Channel 8 is Friday, and the station has devoted portions of its newscasts this week to tributes to the anchor, who has been with Channel 8 for nearly 30 years. These have included stories on how she met her husband, Lance Brown, on her influence on the Hispanic community and on the time she anchored a newscast with Oprah Winfrey.

One of the stories that got the most online reaction happened Wednesday night, when Keonte Cook, a success story from Campos’ “Wednesday’s Child” series that featured children in need of adoptive families, surprised Campos on the air. Keonte was first featured in 2007, and although he was adopted, it didn’t take, so Campos featured him again a couple of years later, and that time everything worked out as Carol and Scott Cook saw the report and adopted Keonte as a result.

Here’s video of Cynthia Izaguirre’s report -- and it’s worth sticking around till after the 3-minute mark to catch Campos’ reaction when Keonte arrives on set.

Keonte’s story -- and Campos’ -- was featured Thursday evening on ABC’s World News With Diane Sawyer, which featured Campos’ work on “Wednesday Child” in an “America Strong” segment (started in 1989, “Wednesday Child” has a 75-percent adoption rate among the children it has featured). Here’s that clip,
