The large ceramic pieces by James Marshall, now on view at William Campbell Contemporary Art, have geometric roots, but the shapes seem to struggle to become organic. Little nubs of limbs protrude from the periphery and silhouettes often have a graceful edge carved into one side. They are large, almost 3 feet square, and have jewel-like colors, or are a commanding matte black. “The Endurance of Form” will be on exhibit through March 22.
