Eats Beat: Byblos, Hedary’s together again for Ridglea rebirth

Marios Hedary is cooking in Ridglea again.

That means Hedary’s and his Byblos Lebanese Restaurant and Hookah Lounge are united for the first time in 20 years.

Long settled is the family feud that split brothers and left Fort Worth debating which restaurant had the best lemon-garlic frarej chicken.

“We’re making Hedary’s like it used to be, and bringing some spirit of Byblos,” said Marios Hedary, one of nine siblings with seven restaurants or food trucks spread from Collin County to Las Vegas.

“I took it over for the family and for the west side. I want to bring Hedary’s back.”

Already, Hedary has added a counter-service lunch menu of chicken, gyro or falafel wraps and bowls ($6.50), Greek chicken salads ($7.50), chicken plates ($7.95) and a sampler platter ($9.95) with chicken, gyro or falafel plus dolmades, tabbouleh, hummus and baba ghannouj.

That’s priced to go squarely up against competitors like busy Terra Mediterranean Grill or casual Greek cafes.

Hedary will revamp the evening menu and add late-night hours with a hookah lounge.

He’s also offering the restaurant’s fabled chicken as a family dinner to go with vegetables, salad or dip and bread for $32.95 Tuesday through Thursday nights.

Hedary’s had aged with Ridglea, keeping mostly the faithful customers from t he family’s original 1976 restaurant on White Settlement Road.

“We’ve been living off our history, but we need more of the quick-lunch crowd and more of the younger people who go to Campisi’s and the other places in 6333,” Marios Hedary said, using the more familiar number for what is now the Village at Camp Bowie center.

He’s added pillowed booths, more upbeat music and a genuine atmosphere more like Byblos.

“The place needed a little bit of a facelift,” he said.

“I want Hedary’s to be here forever.”

Hedary’s is open weekdays for lunch, nightly except Mondays for dinner at 6323 Camp Bowie Blvd. (that’s the Fairfield Avenue side), 817-731-6961; hedarys.com.

Bite City Grill, billed as a New American cuisine restaurant and craft cocktail lounge by Dallas chef “Eddy T” Thretipthuangsin (formerly of Pakpao), is training staff and near opening at 2600 W. Seventh St., taking a space in Montgomery Plaza; bitecitygrill.com.

Taco Diner in Sundance Square will open by the end of March, definitely in time to run smoothly by the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival, April 10-13; 156 E. Fourth St., tacodinerrestaurants.com.

West Fork Grill, a new weekday breakfast and lunch cafe by the owners of Chadra Mezza, will open April 1 inside an office tower at 1200 Summit Ave.; westforkgrill.com.

Pho District, a new Vietnamese restaurant from the owners of Piranha Killer Sushi, is scheduled to open this summer; 2401 W. Seventh St. on the Museum Way side, phodistrict.com.

Still no opening date yet on Melt Ice Creams, a new super-premium ice cream shop on the south side at 954 W. Rosedale St.; instagram.com/meltfw.
