Preston’s picks: Imagine Dragons at AAC

Posted 12:00am on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014

Imagine Dragons at American Airlines Center

It’s entirely possible, by the time you read this, that Imagine Dragons will have sold out American Airlines Center. It’s a feat that, if we’re being honest, would have been inconceivable less than two years ago, when the Las Vegas quartet released its debut album, Night Visions. But that was before radio got hold of singles like Radioactive, Demons and It’s Time, catapulting the band onto Saturday Night Live and this year’s Grammy ceremonies, where it not only took home a golden gramophone for best rock performance, but also unveiled a memorable mash-up with hip rapper Kendrick Lamar. The impossible seems like anything but for this bunch. With Nico Vega and the Naked and Famous.

7 p.m. Friday. American Airlines Center, Dallas. $29.50-$49.50.

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings at Granada Theater

Having battled cancer into remission, soul dynamo Sharon Jones has returned with a new record (aptly titled Give the People What They Want) and the same no-nonsense attitude that has endeared her to critics and audiences alike. “I’m still here, but it’s gonna take a while to get back to normal,” the 57-year-old Jones told Rolling Stone last month. So, in other words, if you’re expecting a more mellow evening with Jones and the always ace Dap-Kings — don’t. With Valerie June.

9 p.m. Thursday. Granada Theater, Dallas. $26-$51.

We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
