‘Cake Boss’ to celebrate Willie Nelson’s birthday

Posted 3:52pm on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013

Willie Nelson may be a Texas icon, but when he turned 80 in April, New Jersey-based Carlo’s Bakery got the call to make a cake. Carlo’s is the focus of the TLC series Cake Boss (whose star, Buddy Valastro, recently swung through DFW on his spinoff series, Bakery Boss), and the show’s midseason premiere on Dec. 30 will feature Valastro and his crew making a cake in the form of Nelson’s guitar, “Trigger.”

From the episode synopsis:

“The carefully constructed cake is layered with fudge filling and every munchy imaginable – including chips, pretzels, and popcorn, and then delivered to the artist at a special concert at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, NYC. But Buddy is in a tough jam when he realizes he has to pick between two different events that night – will he chose to honor his wife, or Willie?” Reality TV is just filled with existential dilemmas, isn’t it?

The episode, cleverly titled “Buddy Gets Baked With Willie Nelson” is scheduled to air at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 30 on TLC. Here’s a preview, which features an appearance by Nelson’s daughter, Amy.
