DFW Beer Battle: The Brewski awards

Posted 9:52am on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013

So many great local craft beers, but only one winner in our inaugural Beer Battle. OK, so maybe there were two winners. Shocking ties aside, we found many other things to raise a glass to throughout our tasting tour of the 32 beers in the bracket. With that, we pop a top on the Brewskis, our awards for some other noteworthy superlatives.

•  Best beer to share with your pals and your pooch: Rahr Ugly Pug

•  Best use of coriander and grapefruit: Armadillo Greenbelt Farmhouse Ale

•  Coolest beer names: Velvet Hammer and The Temptress

•  Best bar makeover: The new tap wall at Pour House Fort Worth, which proved a good spot for finding North Texas beers.

•  Best-stocked local beer shelves: Total Wine, World Market

•  Best nonbeer item from a brewery: Firewheel Brewing Co.’s Chocolate Coconut Root Beer, discovered at Dallas Beer Kitchen

•  Best beer to sip during a scorching summer day: Revolver Blood & Honey
