Preston’s picks: A Spune Christmas at Texas Theatre; Jay-Z at American Airlines Center

A Spune Christmas at Texas Theatre

‘Tis the season for holiday-themed shows, and to help wind down 2013 local promotion/management powerhouse Spune has assembled quite the doozy in Oak Cliff. Headlined by Denton’s favorite sons Midlake and Dallas rockers Air Review, the night will feature a special cocktail menu, food trucks and fire pits to get everyone in a seasonally appropriate mood. With Bethan, Datahowler, Topic and Sam Lao.

8 p.m. Saturday. Texas Theatre, Dallas. $12 advance, $15 door.

Jay-Z at American Airlines Center

It’s been fascinating to watch Jay-Z stumble this year. The billionaire rapper released the ho-hum Magna Carta Holy Grail this summer, although its distribution stunt (a million copies were initially released via a Samsung-sponsored app) engendered some considerable backlash among fans. Not long after that hiccup, Jay-Z found himself in hot water after Barney’s, the luxury retailer with whom he was collaborating, was embroiled in allegations of racial profiling. Here’s hoping his Dallas stop on his “Magna Carter World Tour” is a little smoother.

8 p.m. Saturday. American Airlines Center, Dallas. $32.50-$150.
