Preston’s picks: B.J. Thomas at the Live Oak; Amanda Shires at Dan’s Silverleaf

Posted 6:08pm on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013

B.J. Thomas at the Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge

It’s been a good year for Arlington resident B.J. Thomas. In addition to releasing a new album, The Living Room Sessions, which saw him collaborate with a host of stars including Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill and others, the singer’s indelible version of Hal David and Burt Bacharach’s classic Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head was selected for inclusion in the Grammy Hall of Fame. To close out 2013, he’ll perform an intimate show at one of Fort Worth’s coziest listening rooms. With Taylor Craig Mills.

8 p.m. Friday. Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge, Fort Worth. $100.

Amanda Shires at Dan’s Silverleaf

Down Fell the Doves, the latest record from violinist and singer-songwriter Amanda Shires, has been racking up the critical praise all year long, thanks to its sparkling musicianship and gritty songcraft. Joined on the album by her husband Jason Isbell (whose Southeastern has been earning plenty of plaudits on its own), Shires opens an artistic vein and leaves you dazzled and dazed at her skill. With Sydney Wright.

9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19. Dan’s Silverleaf, Denton. $9, $12 at the door.
