Checking out the new Village Burger Bar

Posted 5:45pm on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013

The Village Burger Bar in West Village has long been a favorite spot of mine with its good food complemented by the great scene that goes along with its prime location in the popular Uptown area. When owners Mike and Susan Matta opened their fourth location last month in North Dallas, I knew a trip to the 214 was in my near future.

The newest Village Burger Bar is located on Inwood Rd, across from the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and has a completely different vibe than the West Village spot. Where the original location that opened back in 2005 has a 'Dallas scene' atmosphere, the new spot has a much more family-friendly feel.

That being said, there is a full bar with 19 taps for local beers and one tap for root beer, wines by the glass, flat-screen TVs and a large patio complete with two large ping-pong tables. In addition to serving its specialty-blended burgers, the new location will also serve as a R&D (research and development) kitchen for creating new menu items. The first R&D item is fried pickles as a starter.

"I'm excited to test new recipes," Chef/co-owner Susan Matta said. "If they are well received, then our other locations will add them to their menu."

For our trip to the new Village Burger Bar, I stayed with my favorite item, the Turkey Burger while my buddies raved about the Chicken Club sandwich and the Goat Cheese Portabello burgers they ordered. Needless to say, we will be making another venture over to Dallas sooner rather than later to visit the new Village Burger Bar.
