Chvrches at South Side Ballroom
This year has been a big one for the Scottish synth-pop trio Chvrches (pronounced churches). First, a series of strong showings at South by Southwest, in support of its Recover EP, followed by a sold-out spring tour that brought the band to Dallas Granada Theater. Six months later, the buzz band is back for another headlining gig, having released its debut LP, The Bones of What You Believe, in September. ( I called the record polished in a four-star review, and said it breezily toggles between glittering, cinematic splashes of sound and thumping anthems.) Is it too early to declare a victory lap for a group thats just getting warmed up?
8 p.m. Saturday. South Side Ballroom, Dallas. $23.
Gary Clark Jr. at House of Blues
Austin-based guitarist Gary Clark Jr. has been hailed as nothing less than the future of the blues by just about every critic to see him scorch a fretboard in the last couple years. He just dazzled Fort Worth in September, as part of Dia de Los Toadies at Panther Island Pavilion, with a plum slot before the second days headliner and festival namesake. Still touring in support of his debut album, Blak and Blu, the blossoming guitar god returns to North Texas for a pre-Thanksgiving blast of six-string soulfulness.
9 p.m. Wednesday. House of Blues, Dallas. $25-$40.
