Hot Issue Profile: Kathryn Dunn

Posted 4:45pm on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013

The 2013 DFW.com Hot Issue made its debut at the end of August and while the month of September felt like an extension of summer, October began to cool things off and bring some rain. Then, just like all of us who live in DFW have come to expect, the weather flipped the script and we were treated to a record-tying high temperature of 87 degrees on Nov. 17. In honor of our summer-esque Sunday afternoon on the Dallas Cowboys bye week, we are going to revisit this year's Hot Issue with an individual profile of our one of our cover models, former Miss Fort Worth Kathryn Dunn.

Kathryn Dunn

Day job: Marketing coordinator for a formalwear manufacturer

Dream job: Utilize my speech communications degree from Baylor and public-speaking skills to become a TV personality.

You may recognize her as: A former Miss Fort Worth.

Interesting fact about her: When I was 12, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic inflammatory disorder that affected my back, shoulders and neck. After adopting a gluten-free diet and daily exercise routine, I was able to achieve remission. Eleven years later, I am able to function, and even dance, pain-free. I developed a program, Healthy Kids for a Healthy Future, where I teach elementary-age children how to become stronger through nutrition and exercise.

Does a guy who is not rich and famous have a realistic chance to go out with you? Of course. If a guy has a great personality, high integrity, and I can be myself around him, he is a keeper!

What’s the worst way for a guy to approach you? I think some guys are still stuck in their childhood mentality where they act like a jerk towards a girl they like. If a guy approaches me acting like a jerk, I turn the other way quickly!

Fantasy person to date? Someone who is handsome, funny, intelligent, nice, polite… He has to exist out there somewhere, right?

What’s your perfect night out?: Grabbing my cowboy boots and best friends for a night out in the Stockyards and two-stepping at Billy Bob’s.

Favorite TV show: Family Feud with Steve Harvey. My family and I always play along.

Favorite movie that made you laugh: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Favorite movie that made you cry: Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. I was expecting it to be a funny movie, but it ended up being really heartwarming and inspiring. It reminded me how important family and loved ones are.

Favorite sports team and player: Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki has been my favorite player since I was 8.

Ideal spot for a summer vacation: I love historical Texas towns, and a couple summers ago some friends and I went to Gruene, home of Texas’ oldest dance hall. We shopped in the historic district, floated the river and saw Ray Wylie Hubbard live in concert. It was the perfect Texas summer vacation.

Favorite patio in DFW: Lately my girlfriends and I have been going to Sfuzzi for our girls’-night-out dinners. Fun atmosphere, great service, and you have got to try the Texas eggs and bacon pizza.

Hobbies: Dance, working out, public speaking, social media, “bedazzling”, and eating gluten-free!

What’s in your purse right now that no one would believe? A Taser. Better I’m safe and they’re sorry!

Best part of your wardrobe that you hate to put away after Labor Day? I live in my sundresses! It always pains me to have to put them away for the winter!

Favorite summer cocktail: You can’t go wrong with an authentic margarita on a hot summer day.

Where might we see you on a summer afternoon in DFW? Out on a jog or at an outdoor boot camp class.

What are you looking forward to this fall when it cools off? My favorite way to spend a cool fall night is to be outside by a fire pit with some Texas country playing in the background. That brings back some of my favorite college memories.
