‘Butler’ director Lee Daniels to dine with locals on Friday

Director Lee Daniels, whose The Butler starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey has been a hit this year, will be at Dallas’ Hall of State in Fair Park as part of the Dallas Film Society’s The Art of Film benefit Friday night.

The appearance includes a dinner and a conversation with Daniels conducted by former Star-Telegram film critic Elvis Mitchell. Daniels’ credits include Monster’s Ball, Precious, and The Paperboy.

Individual tickets are $500. Red carpet rolls out at 6 p.m., reception is at 6:30 p.m., the talk is at 7:30 p.m. and the seated dinner follows at 8:30 p.m.

A free screening of one of Daniels’ films will take place on Saturday. The title and time remains TBA.
