Patty Griffin at Kessler Theater
Patty Griffins year has been full of backward glances. In May, she released her seventh studio album, American Kid, full of heartbreaking vignettes rendered as only Griffin can. Earlier this month, the singer-songwriters long-lost Silver Bell, a victim of major-label transitions in the early 00s, was dusted off and re-released, giving fans a long-desired piece of Griffins back catalog. To have someone of her caliber playing in one of DFWs best listening rooms is nothing short of a gift to area music fans. With Kristy Kruger.
8 p.m. Saturday. Kessler Theater, Dallas. Sold out.
Sleigh Bells at Granada Theater
Its probably overstating things to say Sleigh Bells has mellowed out with its third album, Bitter Rivals (that said, it does begin with 30 seconds of cooing and acoustic guitars ), but the Brooklyn duo of Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller sounds ever so slightly more at ease. That doesnt mean the noise-pop act has forsaken its trademark blend of serrated guitars and drums hitting hard enough to make your heart skip. Live, theres little else like it you dont listen to Sleigh Bells in concert so much as endure it, taking pleasure from the sonic punishment. With Doldrums.
9 p.m. Saturday. Granada Theater, Dallas. $30.
