‘The Book Thief’ among additions to Lone Star Film Festival

Posted 1:32pm on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013

More films have been announced for the next edition of the Lone Star Film Festival, taking place Nov. 7-10 at the AMC Palace in downtown Fort Worth.

Among those added to the lineup are: The Book Thief starring Geoffrey Rush and based on the novel by Markus Zusak; the Texas-set documentary Little Hope Was Arson about church burnings; Japanese drama Like Father Like Son; the Civil-War drama A Field in England; and Before You Know It, a documentary about gay senior citizens.

Two more films have been added to the classic-film ReScreen series including Joyeux Noel (in partnership with the Fort Worth Opera) and Manos: The Hands of Fate, often cited as one of the worst films of all time.

Several films from up-and-coming filmmakers are now in the narrative and documentary competition categories. In the former are Casa Nostra, Silvi, The Cold Lands, Here Comes the Night, and Bob Birdnow’s Remarkable Tale of Human Survival. In the doc category are: Dark Matter of Love, I Will Be Murdered, My Name Is Faith, and Sick Birds Die Easy.

These join a roster of already announced movies including Nebraska (the latest film from Alexander Payne, Sideways), the documentary Tim’s Vermeer about a San Antonio man who is an obsessive about the Dutch painter Vermeer, and Stephen Frears’ Philomena starring Judi Dench.

Single tickets, priced at $8, go on sale Wednesday. Festival passes are available for $50 and $250.
