Lone Star Sounds: New music from Songbird Jones

Posted 4:46pm on Thursday, Sep. 19, 2013

On the heels of last year’s EP My Lonely Guitar, Fort Worth troubadour Matt Jones assembled a who’s who of local music at Bart Rose’s Fort Worth Sound to create his polished full-length self-titled debut.

Apart from producer Paul Boll (who contributes on guitar and organ as well), Jones enlisted Aden Bubeck, Taylor Tatsch, Brook Wallace, Ginny Mac and Johnny Mack, to name a few, to help realize this 10-track collection.

Jones has an easy way about him, and that gentleness is reflected in the songs, which feel country but don’t shy away from rock and blues either.

From the poignant ballad August Eyes to the breezy story-song Lario and Jackie, Jones comports himself like an unhurried storyteller, a man content to spin out his days making music and sharing tales rooted in real life.
