Todrick Hall flash-mobs Ariana Grande

Posted 3:19pm on Monday, Sep. 09, 2013

Ariana Grande’s background includes Broadway and the Nickelodeon sitcoms Victorious, iCarly and upcoming Sam & Cat, all of which featured or will feature Grande as Cat Valentine, the “sweetest teenager in the world”.

But the 20-year-old singer-actress’ biggest success story may be her pop-music album debut, Yours Truly, which is rocketing to the top of the Billboard 200. Lead-off single The Way, featuring Mac Miller, was a Top 10 hit in the spring.

All of which caught the attention of Todrick Hall, the former Arlington resident who made the semifinals of American Idol in the North Texan-heavy ninth season, then turned himself into a YouTube star. Frankly, we have a hard time keeping up with him -- seems like every time we turn around he’s done something like Cinderonce, his Cinderella/Beyonce tribute that debuted last month and is now up to more than a million views. View it here:

Hall’s latest stunt, which we learned about via Idolator, is a tribute to Grande: It starts off like an interview, with Hall chatting up Grande on the busy Universal City Walk near L.A., but then to Grande’s surprise a flash-mob breaks out, featuring Hall and others -- including her brother Frankie -- doing a production number featuring her songs. And she eventually joins in. Check it out here:
