Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team returns for its eighth season with its premiere on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. on CMT. The network’s longest running non-music series will feature eight one-hour episodes that begins with Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Director Kelli Finglass welcoming the ladies to auditions and ends with the revealing of who made this year's squad.
Nervous excitement was in the unseasonably cool air on the first Saturday in May when over 500 ladies were on hand at AT&T Stadium for the preliminary and semi final rounds of auditions. When Sunday's semi-final round was over, 54 ladies remained and advanced to the final auditions to be held two weeks later at the stadium. With an unprecedented 32 returning veterans joining the 54 ladies from the semi-finals, this year's competition for a spot on the team is primed to be the most competitive ever.
"These are the girls who will be the new component to our squad," said Finglass. "We're not only looking for ladies who will be great performers at our football games, but we are also looking for girls who are great ambassadors and can represent our football club for the next 12 months."
The show will focus on the selection processes and the tough choices made by Finglass, choreographer Judy Trammell and Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Charlotte Jones Anderson in order to make certain that they have chosen the best of the best to represent the iconic brand. Other elements of the show include several of the ladies' visits to dance instructor Kitty Carter's studio, the demanding fitness side of being a DCC courtesy of trainer Jay Johnson and the cheerleaders calender shoot in Cozumel.
"Whenever we are in auditions and training camp, we are filming for our show Making the Team," said Sydney Durso, a veteran DCC going into her sixth season. "You are very aware that the cameras are there."
The CMT cameras are indeed rolling and catch everything that happens whether it is inside the DCC studios at Valley Ranch or on the field at AT&T Stadium, fans of the cheerleaders will get to witness how the summer-long action played out. One thing the cameras have no trouble picking up is the intensity of the process and how much each of the ladies wants so badly to see their dream of being a DCC come true.
"It's a nerve-racking process," said veteran Brittney Schram, auditioning for what would be her third season with America's Sweethearts. "I still get butterflies and actually hold my breath when Kelli announces who she wants to call in the office. I get the chills just talking about it."
