Pentatonix’s latest: ‘Can’t Hold Us’

Posted 2:12pm on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013

Pentatonix, the a cappella group founded by Arlington Lamar grads Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado and Mitch Grassi, has taken on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis before with an entertaining cover of Thrift Shop.

This week, the group -- which also includes Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, who were added when Pentatonix entered (and eventually won) NBC’s The Sing Off -- returned to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis territory for a cover of the duo’s anthem Can’t Hold Us. At this writing, it’s well past 750,000 views on YouTube.

The song is the first track released from the upcoming album PTX Official Vol. 2. The video contains a lot of rapid-fire editing and some cool costume changes for the Pentatonix members. It was shot by FifGen Films, which worked with Pentatonix before when they teamed with Lindsey Sterling for a cover of Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive .

Here’s the new clip. As usual, it includes a message from the group at the end, including news about an upcoming European tour. But before that, Pentatonix will return to Arlington for an Aug. 31 show at Levitt Pavilion.
