When Alexandra “Alex” Scott was 4 years old, she announced that she wanted to have a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for children with cancer.
Alex was one of those children: Born in 1996, she was found to have Neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, before her first birthday. She passed away in 2004, but her legacy lives on through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which celebrates National Lemonade Day on Aug. 20. (You can read more about Alex here.)
The foundation has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex’s goal, funding more than 300 projects nationally. And several food establishments will celebrate National Lemonade Day this Tuesday with lemonade stands of their own.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, which has six DFW locations including ones in Arlington, Hurst and Grapevine, will host lemonade stands to benefit the foundation (Red Robin is about to open a Fort Worth location, but not till after National Lemonade Day). The restaurants will serve free samples of Red Robin’s Freckled Lemonade (Minute Made Lemonade mixed with sweet strawberries) while collecting donations for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Red Robin isn’t the only one getting into the act. Participating 7-Elevens are offering a mobile coupon for a free 16-oz. bottle of Snapple Lemon Daze (available in lemonade, pink lemonade and mango lemonade) via the 7-Eleven app on National Lemondade Day. But this doesn’t appear to be associated with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
