When we did our story on DFW geek culture a few weeks ago, one of the first people we turned to for insight was Scott Hinze, host of the long-running comics/pop-culture show Fanboy Radio on Fort Worth’s KTCU/88.7 FM “The Choice.” Hinze sends word that after a brief hiatus, the show will return with new episodes at 6 p.m. Sunday.
“Like this year's Hollywood blockbusters, Fanboy Radio took the summer off!,” Hinze says in an e-mail. “We return ... this with new energy, a new production crew and and a new rash we need to get checked out.” Let’s hope they don’t talk too much about that last one.
The show has developed a national and international following via the Internet, but Hinze says that it’s going to get even more local with “experts, creative types and opinion-makers” from DFW. The show will add a couple of new segments, “Which is Worse?” and “Nerd View,” and will have a new co-host, Anthony Bowling of Four Day Weekend. Radio vet Daniel Lockwood also joins as new prodcuer.
Hinze has been talking about geekery of all sorts on the show for 12 years, scoring interviews with such notables as film director/major geek Kevin Smith, Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee and even John Grisham. The show’s archives can be heard at FanboyRadio.com.
