They’ve got the Beet

Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth’s 10th annual Modern Dance Festival at the Modern continues with an interesting series, “9 Beet Stretch/Music of the Spheres,” which uses a stretched-out version of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and site-specific dances. The performances Saturday, July 20, are 10:45 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Free. 817-922-0944; www.cdfw.org.

Murder ballads

There will be lots of commemorations of the JFK assassination in the coming months, and you can, in a morbid way, count in the production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Assassins, which deals with people who killed, or attempted to kill, presidents. It runs through Aug. 11. The performance Saturday, July 20, is at 8 p.m. It’s presented by Onstage in Bedford at the Trinity Arts Theater at Bedford Boys Ranch, 2819 Forest Ridge Drive. $12-$15. 817-354-6444; www.onstageinbedford.com.
