Burger Battle: Readers’ bracket Round 1 results

Posted 1:50pm on Thursday, Jul. 18, 2013

You crazy burger lovers cast more than 17,000 votes in the first round of our Readers’ Bracket – you can see your picks on the bracket section of our Burger App.

There was one upset we didn’t see coming: Charley’s, the 2011 Readers’ Choice winner was clipping along pretty well, until fans of Tom’s in Arlington overtook it, sailing to the Round 1 win with a 186-vote lead.

Is this a pattern? M&O, our 2009 Readers’ Choice winner, was booted out this year by Arlington upstart Grease Monkey.

In another key battle, you told us you were unquestionably loyal to Fred’s, which will fight valiantly on here after being upset in the judges’ bracket. (Here, Fred’s crushed the little-known Burger Xtreme by a nearly 800-vote margin.)

Meanwhile, our readers didn’t rally behind Austin import Hopdoddy; it fell to Mixed Up Burgers in Grand Prairie; and Dallas favorite Off-Site Kitchen fell to little-known H2 Burger Co., tucked into a hard-to-find spot in downtown Fort Worth.

Check out the rest of the results by going here and clicking on the Readers’ Bracket.

Voting in Round 2 of our Readers’ Bracket is now open, so you can go there to cast your ballots (you’re allowed one vote per day). Those winners will be pitted against each other in the Elite Eight.

Deadline for Round 2 voting is Wednesday, July 24 at noon.

We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
