Reports: Jon Dillon out at KZPS

Posted 4:00pm on Monday, Jul. 15, 2013

So this all sounds a little familiar: Jon Dillon, the afternoon jock at KZPS/92.5 FM, has suddenly vanished from the airwaves at the station. This happened once before, back in 2004, when Dillon was unceremoniously removed after about 15 years with the station. He returned in 2006 to host the Saturday Night Free For All and moved back into a regular weekday slot -- first nights, then afternoons -- not long after that.

So far, KZPS and Clear Channel execs have not returned e-mails or phone calls requesting comment -- or at least confirmation, which is usually the best you can hope for in “personnel matters.” But The Dallas Morning News’ Robert Wilonsky reports that Dillon is indeed out.

Dillon, who is a 2013 nominee for the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, has been a fixture on DFW radio for more than 40 years, also worked at legendary (and defunct) KZEW and KTXQ, as well as KFAD, which is way before my DFW time but according to Mike Shannon’s History of Dallas-Fort Worth Radio and Television signed on in 1969 with the area’s first “underground” format, featuring a young Jon Dillon.

Trying for more info. Will update if it comes in.
