Oprah to film ‘Oprah’s Lifeclass’ episode in Dallas

Posted 8:44am on Tuesday, Jul. 09, 2013

Dallas-based Bishop T.D. Jakes, a TV personality in his own right, has scored a big “get” for his MegaFest 2013, which will take place Aug. 29-31 at the Dallas Convention Center, American Airlines Center and other venues: TV queen Oprah Winfrey is coming to DFW to help Jakes launch what’s being called one of America’s largest Christian events.

Winfrey and Jakes share a concern for fatherless children throughout the United States, which will be one of the topics as Winfrey helps Jakes kick off MegaFest at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 29. The appearance will be filmed for Oprah’s Lifeclass on Winfrey’s OWN cable channel. On an earlier episode, Winfrey and life coach/OWN personality Iyanla Vanzant had addressed the subkject of fatherless children (according to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 21 million children in the United States live in fatherless families).

The Dallas-filmed episode is expected to air in September on OWN. Tickets for the show will be available beginning noon CDT July 5 via tdjakes.org/oprahslifeclass.

According to a MegaFest release, more than 50,000 people are expected to attend the conference, which will be in the United States for the first time since 2006. The family-oriented event rounds up four Jakes conferences: Woman Thou Art Loosed, ManPower, MegaKidz and MegaYouth. Tickets are $60 each; package and group rates are available. We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
