Preston’s picks: Kings of the Mic at Verizon Theatre; Justin Bieber at American Airlines Center

Kings of the Mic at Verizon Theatre

In most musical genres, stars can age gracefully, more or less. But in hip-hop, ceding the spotlight to the next generation is a little bit trickier. Put bluntly: most rap doesn’t age particularly well, given that its most incendiary or indelible moments are the province of young men and women. Nevertheless, that truism doesn’t stop elder statesmen and women from trying to keep a career alive, no matter how long it’s been since their heyday. LL Cool J, fresh from hosting the Grammys, headlines this throwback event, and old-school hip-hop-heads will doubtless be in full effect. With Ice Cube, Public Enemy, De La Soul & DJ Z-Trip.

7:30 p.m. Monday. Verizon Theatre, Grand Prairie. $39.50-$59.50.

Justin Bieber at American Airlines Center

We’ve had a lot of fun with Justin Bieber over the years, but jokes aside, the Canadian pop superstar doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. While his career isn’t quite as hot as it was even a year ago (when he first breezed through the American Airlines Center), the omnipresent 19-year-old can still sway the culture — 40 million Twitter followers can’t be wrong — and fill arenas in support of his third album, 2012’s Believe. You’ll be able to hear the ecstatic screams all the way to Waco. With Hot Chelle Rae and Mike Posner.

7 p.m. Wednesday. American Airlines Center, Dallas. $45-$95.
