Dirk Nowitzki's Heroes Celebrity Baseball game set for June 29

Posted 8:28am on Tuesday, Jun. 25, 2013

The 2013 edition of Dirk Nowitzki's Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game presented by Baylor Medical Center of Frisco will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday June 29 at the Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Dallas Mavericks legend Nowitzki took over the hosting duties from Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano last year prior to the 11th edition of the midsummer game and it turned out to be a huge success. Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens was the game's MVP after putting on an offensive display by going 3-for-3 as the White Sox defeated the Blue Sox 13-6 before a capacity crowd.

Celebrities lined up for this year's game include Nowitzki, Mavs owner Mark Cuban, last year's MVP Terrell Owens, Cowboys players Dez Bryant and Brandon Carr, Mavs swingman Vince Carter, former Mavericks players Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Brian Cardinal, Michael Finley, Nick Van Exel, J.J. Barea and Eduardo Najera, former Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson, former Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner and Mavs president and GM Donnie Nelson. MLB Hall of Fame pitcher Goose Gossage and three-time MLB All-Star outfielder David Justice will serve as the team's managers.

Dr Pepper Ballpark gates will open at 4:30 p.m. prior to the Heroes Special Olympics All-Star Softball game that begins at 4:45 p.m. The baseball game begins at 6:30 and will be followed by a 10-minute fireworks display. Tickets ranging from $8 to $17 are available through Ticketmaster and the ballpark's box office.

Money raised will benefit the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation.
