Red-letter dates for geeks, fans, collectors

These days, being a geek means having a passion for something, and there are plenty of cons coming up where fans can pursue individual passions, including:

• June 29-30: Costumers Lost Weekend, a small convention presented by the Dallas-Fort Worth Costumers Guild.

• July 27: The next quarterly North Texas Comic Book Show, at the Doubletree Hotel/Dallas Market Center.

• Aug. 1-4: Quakecon 2013, a gaming convention, at Dallas’ Hilton Anatole hotel.

• Aug. 1-4: Starfleet International, a Star Trek convention, at Dallas’ MGM Elegante Hotel

• Aug. 17-18: The Vampire Diaries Official Convention, a touring con landing at the Westin Dallas Fort Worth Airport in Irving.

• Aug. 30-Sept. 2: AnimeFest 2013, Sheraton Dallas Hotel

• Sept. 20-22: Salute to Supernatural , Westin Park Central Hotel in Dallas. This is also a tour, but Supernatural star Jensen Ackles grew up in the Dallas area and his co-star, Jared Padalecki, is from San Antonio.

• Oct. 4-6: Fan Days, details to come.

• Oct. 4-6: FenCon, a science fiction/fantasy convention, at Crowne Plaza Dallas (in Addison near the Galleria).

• Nov. 20-24: Board Game Geek, Hyatt Regency DFW Airport.

• Nov. 22-24: WhoFest, a 50th-anniversary celebration of Doctor Who put on by DFW fans (who also run FenCon), Crowne Plaza Dallas.
