Preston’s picks: KXT Summer Cut at Gexa Energy Pavilion; Chvrches at Granada Theater

KXT Summer Cut at Gexa Energy Pavilion

Public radio station KXT/91.7 FM returns for a second year of sonic festivities at Gexa Energy Pavilion. This year’s lineup errs on the rootsy side, from the headliners (the Avett Brothers, Dawes, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals) all the way down to the local acts populating the bill (the Orbans, Oil Boom and RTB2). Provided summer doesn’t bare its fangs and make being outdoors unbearable, this Summer Cut should be an enjoyable entree into the warmest season. With Milo Greene, Hayes Carll, Matt & Kim, the Roomsounds and Fate Lions.

4 p.m. Saturday. Gexa Energy Pavilion, Dallas. $30-$55.

Chvrches at Granada Theater

One of the more pleasant surprises at this year’s South by Southwest was the sweaty, ecstatic set I witnessed from Scotland’s Chvrches (despite the stylized spelling, it’s pronounced “churches”) at Spin magazine’s day party. Fronted by formidable vocalist Lauren Mayberry, this trio fashions muscular electro-pop rich with melody. Chvrches is touring behind its Recover EP, released in March (a full-length debut is due out this fall), and will spend July opening for Depeche Mode on the group’s Delta Machine world tour. With Still Corners.

9 p.m. Thursday. Granada Theater, Dallas. $15.
