Meet Daniel Vaughn, the ‘BBQ snob’

Posted 2:28pm on Thursday, May. 23, 2013

Is an hour really long enough for barbecue aficionados to argue about Texas Monthly’s 2013 list of The Top 50 Barbecue Joints (in Texas and hence, according to TM, the world)? Here’s an opportunity to find out:

Dallas -- Daniel Vaughn, author of The Prophets of Smoked Meat , proprietor of the Full Custom Gospel BBQ blog, and subject of a recent DFW.com profile -- will be in Dallas on Saturday for a book signing Four Corners Brewing Co., 423 Singleton Blvd. in west Dallas.

The whole event is really more than an hour, but there’s a VIP Meat and Greet from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the brewery. $100 plus ticket fees will get you into a celebration of Texas barbecue featuring Vaughn and pitmasters Justin Fourton of Dallas’ Pecan Lodge (which made it into the top four on Texas Monthly’s list); Will Fleischmann of Dallas’ Lockhart Smokehouse; and Travis Mayes of Garland’s Meshack’s Bar-B-Que Shack.

Only tickets were made available to the VIP event, which includes special barbecue dishes with beer pairings, signed copies of Vaughn’s book and the TM barbecue issue, and access to the pitmasters. But there’s also a general-admission event from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday that’s free, but doesn’t include all the perks of the VIP event (i.e., you’ll have to pay for books and food). And you’ll still have to RSVP, because space is limited. For information on how to RSVP, click on the link in this paragraph.
