Weekend Chef: Extreme food weekend at TMS

There has always been a disclaimer on the back of your racing ticket saying that you assume all risk attending the race, but does that risk include eating an Inferno Dog from the concessions? We are talking about a quarter pound hot dog topped with nacho cheese, salsa, cayenne hot sauce and spicy jalapenos. Yikes!

Well I guess I will find out this Friday morning at Texas Motor Speedways Inaugural Shake-and-Bake Off, a special concessions event kicking off this TMS race weekend. The contest will showcase eight-food finalists from over 35 entries of actual menu items available at the track, with the judges picking out a “Best Tasting” and “Most Original” winners.

And I will be one of the judges. Yikes again! I know I am known for Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf and Ghost Pepper Hot Wings… But this might be a little extreme even for me!

The eight finalists I will be tasting are Cheese on a Stick, Fried Bologna Sandwich, Jalapeno/Cheese Dog, Rib-Eye Steak Sandwich, Smokn' Hub Caps, Inferno Dog, Fried Guacamole and Chocolate Covered Frozen Turtle Cheesecake.

My fellow judges include, Jeff Hammond (SPEED), Kaitlin Vincie (SPEED), Steve Lamb (WBAP 820 AM), Jack Layman (Jack ‘N’ Grill/Bayou Jacks), Quincy Hart (Twisted Root/Tacos ‘N’ Avocados), Katie (TMS/Great American Sweetheart) and Paige McCoy Smith (WFAA/Good Morning Texas).

The Shake-and-Bake Off will kick things off at TMS this Friday at 9 a.m. at the SPEED Stage located on the Midway outside Gate 3.

If you are at the track, come by and see who wins (or if I survive). Portions of the competition will also be broadcast live on WFAA Ch. 8’s Good Morning Texas.
