Back in October, celeb chef Tim Love announced that he was closing Love Shack Denton and that he would renovating it into an upscale steakhouse. Less than six months later -- which is is pretty fast in restaurant time -- Love is preparing to open Queenie's Steakhouse on Thursday in the spot just a little east of Denton's courthouse square.
Per a release, Queenie's is named to pay homage to Loves mother, who single-handedly raised him and his six older brothers and sisters in Denton. It "features a beef-focused menu that celebrates the farmers and purveyors of Texas."
As is typical of Love's places, there will be indoor seating (a 65-seat dining room and 35-seat bar) and outdoor seating (two patio areas). The menu is still being finalized, but among planned items are grilled oysters with garlic, parmesan and serrano; Loves take on a shrimp cocktail prepared with fresh horseradish; prime steaks including Loves own creation, the Wagyu Tomahawk cut, served bone-in, for two people (come hungry and be prepared to pay a lot for that one); American lamb chops with a huckleberry-haberno demi glace; and chicken-fried whole lobster in a garlic tomato broth.
We've seen a draft menu, and although we can't get into other specifics because it hasn't been finalized, we're amused by the "Texas Vegetarian" section -- which as you might guess isn't vegetarian at all, but consists of non-beef meat and seafood items. There is also a (very brief) "Real Vegetarian" section, along with several sides that are veggie-friendly. (Update: the menu is now online.)
Designed by Loves wife Emilie, Queenies Steakhouse "invokes an industrial aesthetic that is both modern and welcoming" with a blend of stainless steel details and softer wood and fabric features.
Queenie's is at 115 East Hickory Street in Denton. It will br open for dinner from 4:30 to 10 p.m Thursday, 4:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fridays. For reservations or more information, call 940-442-6834 or visit the website.
