No big surprise that Tony Zazza, who has been doing mornings at KVIL/103.7 FM since longtime morning team Gene and Julie Gates were let go in January, has been given the morning gig on a more permanent basis (to the extent that anything in radio is permanent). Zazza, who had previous morning-show experience from his days at rival KDMX/102.9 FM, has been with KVIL since 2009 and seemed like a natural in-house fit for the morning slot.
Now he has a co-host: Julie Fisk, who will join Zazza for Zazza and Julie from 5:30 to 10 a.m., beginning April 8. Fisk also has morning-show experience, having been part of the morning team at KDGE/102.1 FM "The Edge" for several years. Fisk is already part of the CBS Radio family that owns KVIL, having worked as a traffic reporter and film critic for KRLD/1080 AM and entertainment reporter for KJKK/1003. FM, better-known as "Jack FM."
While she was on the Edge, Fisk worked with Chris Jagger, who's now holding down the morning slot once held by Zazza at KDMX. Considering that the Gateses -- who are now running Battuto Italian Kitchen in north Dallas -- went by Gene and Julie on the air, the name Julie has some consistency on KVIL mornings.
