Newy Scruggs wants you to hear Voices.
Specifically, Voices of the Game With Newy Scruggs, a new three-hour Monday-Friday radio show scheduled to debut at 11 a.m. Central on April 1 on NBC Sports Radio.
Scruggs, who is KXAS/Channel 5's sports director as well as its 6 and 10 p.m. weeknight sports anchor, will keep the TV gig that he has had since 2000. His radio show will be part of the launch of NBC Sports Network, a 24/7 channel that has no local "terrestrial" radio affiliates but can be heard online here -- once the radio network launches, that is.
Besides Scruggs, the show's voices will include a rotation of guest hosts: former Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones on Tuesdays, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports Radio on Wednesdays, former Texas Rangers baseball manager and ESPN MLB analyst Bobby Valentine on Thursdays, and former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy on Fridays. Each co-host will join Scruggs for the show's second hour; Monday's co-host is to be determined.
Scruggs, a 20-year broadcasting veteran, is no stranger to radio, having hosted The Newy Scruggs Radio Show on KRLD/105.3 FM "The Fan". He has also contributed commentaries to the Star-telegram. Learn more about his world here.
