Keller's Sugar & Frosting expanding into Fort Worth

Posted 1:32pm on Friday, Mar. 08, 2013

When DFW.com dug into the local pie scene (click the link, look at the pictures and drool) late last year, one of our favorite pies was the chocolate chess pie from Sugar & Frosting, a bakery located in a small, homey shop on a side street in Keller. The bakery specializes in cupcakes, but the pie -- which we had to order in advance -- stood out with its cracked, brownie-esque crust and rich chocolate flavor.

Still, Sugar & Frosting is a little out of the way if you don't live in northern Tarrant County. So good news if you live in southwest Fort Worth: Sugar & Frosting has acquired Fort Worth-based Sweet Boutique, and will expand its offerings as it becomes known as Sugar & Frosting: Bake Shop ▪ Popcorn ▪ Sweet Boutique. It will continue to offer the products each company was known for, but combined in two locations.

Sugar & Frosting pastry chef Melody Fitzgerald and her husband/business partner Daniel had been seeking a Fort Worth-based location to expand their bakery offerings, and with the acquisition of Sweet Boutique, they now have a place that was known for its wide variety of flavored and colored popcorns shipped nationwide. Truffles, candies, chocolates, gummies, licorice and other sweets will also be available, as well as baked goods as the Fitzgeralds combine the sweet and savory offerings at both locations.

The Fort Worth location is a few doors down from Barnes & Noble and Old Navy, at 4801 Overton Ridge Boulevard, Suite 124. It will be open 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
