Notes from Texas Motor Speedway Media Day

Posted 7:49am on Thursday, Mar. 07, 2013

Texas Motor Speedway held its annual Media Day festivities to announce changes for the upcoming race season on Monday in the Grand Ballroom of the Speedway Club. When TMS President Eddie Gossage and company hold an event, they do it right!

Gossage wasted no time on getting to the biggest news of the day with the official word that the April 13th race had a new title sponsor, the National Rifle Association. The annual spring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway will be retitled the "NRA 500" and serve as the first prime-time Saturday evening race of this season.

"The NRA has been involved in the sport for several years and a partner of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. for many years in various aspects, and this race entitlement is just another extension of that business relationship," Gossage said.  "We look forward to another successful partnership with the NRA for our April race week of activities."

Dude Perfect, the basketball trick shot artists and YouTube sensations, were there for the making of a video with the special guests who were on hand for TMS Media Day. The Media Day guests Ricky Stenhouse Jr.(NASCAR Sprint Cup), James Hinchcliffe (IZOD IndyCar Series), James Buescher (Camping World Truck Series) and Travis Pastrana (Nationwide Series) took the stage one-by-one to take questions from TMS Vice President of Media Relations Mike Zizzo. Topics included Stenhouse dating Danica Patrick, Hinchcliffe becoming involved with SPEED channel and extreme sports legend Travis Pastrana getting a full-time ride in the Nationwide Series. Pastrana did add that of all the daredevil-type stunts he has performed, the craziest thing he has ever done was "getting married."

Dude Perfect, the five-man team consisting of Texas A&M graduates, has eclipsed 693,000 subscribers and 107 million views on their YouTube channel. Their video shot during Media Day is scheduled to be released the week of April 8th.

Tickets for the NRA 500 are available by visiting or by calling the ticket office at (817) 215-8500.
