For the second time this month, a Fort Worth-linked American Idol alum has landed a slot opening for a big star. But while Tim Halperin's gig opening for Kelly Clarkson this Friday at Verizon Theatre is a one-shot deal, Casey James will have a recurring gig opening for Taylor Swift on her "Red" Tour.

The announcement on James' website doesn't list official dates, but according to Idol-obsessed site mjsbigblog, James will perform on the closing leg of the tour, in a series of shows running from early August to late September, including a big show at Chicago's Soldier Field and multiple shows at L.A.'s Staples Center.
James will be the secondary opener, followed by Ed Sheeran, who is the primary opener for the whole tour. The closest he'll get to DFW are the first two dates, Aug. 6 and 7 in Wichita and Tulsa, respectively.
Mjsbigblog also reports that the latest single from James' debut album will be lead-off track The Good Life, which displays more of James' rock side than previous singles Crying on a Suitcase and Let's Don't Call it a Night. James could use a crossover hit (he should take pointers from Swift), and this has the potential to get some pop airplay. Here he is performing is for appreciative (and by that I mean screaming) fans last year at Billy Bob's.
