March usually brings a flood of concerts tied in some way to South by Southwest, but this year, in addition to all of the festival spillover, there are several high-profile shows scheduled for North Texas venues that are happening apart from SXSW. Solange at 35 Denton
She may not fill stadiums around the world like her sister, Beyonce, but Solange Knowles is a pretty formidable talent in her own right. The Houston native has one of the year's best releases thus far -- her Dev Hynes-produced EP True -- and will bring her unique style to North Texas to headline the main stage of 35 Denton. 8 p.m. March 9. $25-$55 (single and multiday tickets available); prekindle.com

Alicia Keys at Verizon Theatre
The piano-pounding Keys has been everywhere the last few months: singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, performing at the NBA All-Star game, designing sneakers for Reebok, becoming the face of BlackBerry, and, oh yeah, releasing her fifth studio LP Girl on Fire, which spawned her current tour.
