Time is running out to try Twisted Root's doughnut burger

Posted 1:04pm on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013

Just got this missive from Twisted Root Burger Co., which I reprint in its entirety:

"With only a week left in February, I have something that you may want to check out before it's gone! This month Twisted Root Burger Co. has been featuring a new twist on sweet a salty and it's the "If this is Wrong...I don't Want to be Right" Burger. It's a cheddar burger with fried egg, two strips of bacon and drum roll please........two glazed donuts. Sold for $9.99, It's a gooey mess but oh so yummy."

My first thought was something like, "Finally -- all the stuff I gave up for Lent on one burger," which is a bit of an exaggeration. I didn't give all that up -- but I'm not eating all of it together. I have a reputation for eating anything that's not nailed down, but this burger scares even me. I think it would have even scared me in college, when I could eat anything that wasn't nailed down.

This isn't an original idea. R&B singer Luther Vandross was a big fan of -- and may have invented -- the Luther Burger, a cheeseburger between two Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Caloric queen Paula Deen is also somehow connected. Read about it here, keeping in mind that Vandross was only 54 when he died. No wonder the Luther Burger made this list.
