Grab your stovepipe hat and grow out your '70s beard -- it's time again to join DFW.com for some Oscar fun.
Will it be Ben Affleck's hostage drama Argo capturing the best picture prize? Or will the cast of Les Miserables be singing a happier tune on Oscar night? And can anyone impeach Lincoln's Daniel Day Lewis in the Best Actor category?
These are just a few of the questions that will be answered on Feb. 24, when DFW.com, the Modern Art Museum and the Lone Star Film society host their 5th annual Oscar Watching Party at the Modern. We invite you to walk the red carpet, dress up as your favorite nominees and win fabulous prizes.
But more on that in a minute...
First, we want you to make your picks in our Oscar contest. The winner will receive a year's worth of free movies from the fine folks at Rave Cinemas -- and bragging rights for a year, of course!
Enter the contest here, and don't wait too long to cast your ballot, because we expect you to be picking out your outfit for the party at the Modern.
The 5th annual Oscar Watching Party will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. It is free and you don't need a reservation.
Everyone is invited to walk the red carpet, enter to win great prizes throughout the night, and our grand prize of the night will be a fabulous flatscreen screen TV from Starpower!
Also, if you're wondering what to wear. Anything goes -- from jeans to formal wear. But guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite nominee, and if you do our celebrity judges will be on hand to award special prizes to the best Oscar-inspired costumes of the year. Last year's winners included Puss n' Boots, Girls with a Dragon Tattoo, and some awesome silent film stars, a la The Artist. This year is full of possibilities -- from Lincoln and Jean Valjean (Les Miz) to crazed Eagles fans (Silver Linings Playbook) or simply the Undead (ParaNorman). Use your imagination and you'll be rewarded on Oscar night.
The evening kicks off at 6 p.m., when DFW.coms crack team of entertainment junkies will be on hand to welcome on the red carpet.
Beginning at 7 p.m., the Oscar broadcast will be shown live via satellite in Café Modern and in the Moderns auditorium. Throughout the evening, well also have a viewing screen in the Moderns lobby, along with light snacks and drinks available for purchase.
Christopher Kelly will be your emcee for the evening, and hell be handing out Oscar-inspired prize packages during commercial breaks.
Admission is free, and no ticket is required. Seating in the museums auditorium is first come, first served. Seating in the cafe is unlimited.
For questions, you can e-mail Rick Press as firstname.lastname@example.org. See ya on the red carpet!
