Bulls Night Out in Fort Worth: 2013 edition

Posted 9:16pm on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013

I freely admit that I love going to watch bull riding. Following last year's Bulls Night Out and PBR Dickie's Iron Cowboy III at Cowboys Stadium, I arranged my calendar to ensure I would be at Will Rogers Coliseum for my favorite event of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

In its 12th year, Bulls Night Out has become a people-watching mecca. One of my more attractive female friends posted on Facebook, "Bulls Night Out means Girls Night Out" and she was right on the money.

The close to 6,000 fans that packed the building were in for a good show as the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's bull riding competition featured great performances by riders including J.W. Harris, Cody Whitney, Kanin Asay and Josh Koschel. There were 40 bull riders in the competition that was separated into three sections with the top 10 advancing to the finals. Entertainment between the sections included the Justin Mutton Bustin' and the Pony Express Relay Race.

Another of the evening's highlights was the Cowboy Poker with four cowboys sitting around a table and a bull charging at them with the last one sitting in his chair declared the winner. The crowd really got into this as the clowns enticed the bull to make his way to the table.

The scene after the final ride shifted its way to the party tent known as the Rodeo Roadhouse. This is where Bulls Night Out officially transformed into Girls Night Out as a plethora of beautiful ladies were on hand. The enclosed tent was close to its capacity of 550 people who were enjoying adult beverages and the live music by Chaz Marie.

The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo runs through Feb. 9. For further information, you can  follow the event on their Facebook page and Twitter.
