Tammy Dombeck's 'American Way' travel story

Posted 2:15pm on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013

After longtime "Gridlock Buster" Tammy Dombeck left KXAS/Channel 5 last summer, we heard from a lot of people who would like to see her back on the air someplace. Dombeck has said that she's open to that happening, and since she grew up in the area, she'd like to stay in Dallas-Fort Worth.

For now, though, she's written about getting out of Dallas-Fort Worth in a travel story for American Way magazine. The story, about her and a friend's trip to the Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina in the British Virgin Islands, went online Tuesday, and Dombeck sent along a link.

You can read it here.

Although it's a travel story, the first page is about the homefront, and for people in DFW -- especially those who followed Dombeck in her 12 years on NBC 5 -- the intro is as interesting as the trip. It details what morning-TV work was like, as well as several "defining life moments" that happened to Dombeck in 2012, from her father's illness to her own engagement to the death of two pets to turning 40.

Big year for her -- no wonder she needed a vacation.
