Here's your 2013 arts planner

Posted 7:51am on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013

For the arts in Fort Worth, 2013 will be notable for something that happens every four years here: the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, which begins in May at Bass Hall.

But other groups have big plans, including the Fort Worth Opera, which this year will launch its inaugural Frontiers initiative, a showcase of snippets from new works.

Sister Act and Memphis come to Bass Hall.

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History displays a photo exhibit about Elvis from the Smithsonian.

The Fort Worth and Dallas symphony orchestras take on Carmina Burana on back-to-back weekends.

And the Kimbell Art Museum gets a rare Bernini exhibit, and Matisse and Picasso -- and then a new building at the end of the year, if things stay on track.

Here's a look at what you can expect in the performing and visual arts in 2013. (Most organizations have not released plans for their new seasons, which is why there are far more listings in the spring and summer.) We don't have space to make this exhaustive, so check your favorite venues or groups for more events and information -- especially for Dallas groups.

We hope you'll keep this as a resource as you plan your cultural outings for the year.
