Across the transom this morning comes news from the Presidential Inaugural Committee that one of Fort Worth's musical daughters will be a part of the 57th Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21. Kelly Clarkson will perform America (My Country Tis of Thee) on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol during the inaugural ceremonies. She'll be joined by another Texan, Beyonce (who is performing the national anthem), as well as singer-songwriter James Taylor.
Vice President Biden and I are honored to have these wonderfully talented musical artists perform at the Inaugural ceremony, said President Obama in a statement. Their music is often at the heart of the American story and speaks to folks across the country.
In a tweet announcing the news, Clarkson, who performed for Pope Benedict XVI in 2008, described herself as "excited and honored." It's a great start to the year for the newly-engaged Clarkson, who just released her first greatest hits album at the end of 2012, and is also up for four Grammys next month.
